On Sunday evening, Maxim Rehm popped the champagne corks, the young racing driver from Germany won the highest title in German karting at the finale of the German Kart Championship and is thus following in great footsteps. Numerous motorsport greats have already won this prestigious title at the beginning of their careers.

With four victories and a clear lead in the championship, Maxim Rehm travelled to the final of the DKM in Wackersdorf. The 1,197-meter-long Prokart Raceland was the scene of the last races of the year. Maxim already knew before the start that this time it was important to finish and collect points. "We do not necessarily have to win. For me, it is important to keep an eye on my direct opponent and score points," the 15-year-old explained his strategy.

Already in the practice sessions it became clear that the LN Kart driver is once again one of the fastest and confirmed this with a second place in qualifying. The heats were somewhat restrained, in alternating conditions he fell back to sixth place in the intermediate ranking. "The second round was not ideal, so I lost a lot of ground. But sixth place is still good," the Baden-Württemberg native summed up on Saturday evening.

On Sunday it was time to convince. In front of full bleachers, Maxim fought his way up to second place in the first final. With that, the decision had already been made, Maxim had so much advantage that the title could not be taken away from him. Accordingly, he calmly tackled the last race of the year. In third place, he was again on the podium and was subsequently honored as the official German Kart Champion.

"Wow, it finally worked. Last year we missed the junior title by a razor-thin margin, now it was enough. With four race wins, I am the driver with the most successes in my account. The whole team, Joseph, Scott and Nico did an incredible job. We also had some setbacks, but we always believed in success and can now celebrate," Maxim beamed in the winner's interview.

The German Kart Championship celebrated its 60th anniversary this year and drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher, Carlo Sainz Junior and Robert Kubica – to name just a few – have earned their first spurs in the championship. With his success, Maxim now joins the ranks of such motorsport greats.
