After a short breather, the 2022 season is now getting off to a flying start for Maxim Rehm. In the coming weeks he will tour Europe, starting with the Champions of the Future Winter Series in Franciacorta, Italy. In exciting races, he delivered a good performance and was place the best German driver with twelfth place.
More than 130 drivers competed at the premiere of the COTF Winter Series in Italy. The race was also regarded as a location for the FIA Kart European Championship, which is also a guest on the 1,300-meter-long racetrack with its racing calendar. For Maxim Rehm it was the race premiere on the track.
"We were already here for training a few days ago. I feel well prepared and am looking forward to the three days of racing," the 14-year-old revealed in an interview. With 16th place in qualifying, he had a good starting position and continued in the heats. Despite fast times, however, he lost some ground and was only 21st in the intermediate ranking. "I caught a time penalty in one run and basically still make too many mistakes, that has to be better tomorrow," Maxim reveals on Saturday evening.
In bright sunshine, the final races started on Sunday. However, after a strong performance in the SuperHeat, Maxim had to cope with a setback. Two laps before the end of the race, he retired with a technical problem. Thus, he started from grid position 23 into the final over 23 laps. In this, the protégé of Ricky Flynn Motorsport showed his best performance of the weekend. With strong maneuvers he fought his way towards the front and was ranked twelfth in the end."
That was a really good race in which we showed our speed. Making up eleven places is not so easy to do in such a strong field. I would like to thank my mechanic and team for the support. I will now build on this in the coming races," the German driver summed up.
In just a few days he will be back in his LN kart, then the second half of the WSK Euro Series season will start in La Conca (Italy).
