Directly from the FIA Karting European Championship in Spain, Maxim Rehm continued to Kerpen for the start of the German Kart Championship. With a solid group of drivers in the junior field, the youngster struggled with engine problems in the beginning and was therefore without a chance. In the end, however, the technical problems were resolved and the driver from Blaubeuren drove up to seventh place.
Two exciting racing weeks are over for Maxim Rehm. "Unfortunately, not everything went as planned in Zuera and in the end, I missed the final entry one position short, this time I want to do better," the 13-year-old Baden-Württemberger summed up. With 110 participants from all over Europe, the fields in the German Kart Championship were well filled and promised great racing sport.
On Friday everything went according to plan for the youngster. With a best time in the last free practice he went into the race with great confidence. However, the tide turned on Saturday. Problems with his engine threw him far back. After the heats, he was only placed 23rd overall and was correspondingly dissatisfied: "We tried to fix the problem all day today, unfortunately without any success. Hopefully, I'll be more lucky tomorrow."
As throughout the entire weekend already, the weather on Sunday provided a special challenge. Temperatures of almost 40 degrees celsius made people and machines sweat. "Fortunately, we already know these conditions from Zuera," Maxim joked before the finals. In which the youngster's engines worked much better again. With a great catch-up race, he fought his way up to positions 15 and seven. With that, Maxim collected championship points in both finals and only narrowly scraped past the cup ranks in the second run.
"In the end it went much better and I drove best times. Too bad it didn't look like that on Saturday. We now have to work on the performance in order to be able to participate in the title fight," Maxim summed up.
Directly from Kerpen, Maxim continued to travel to Wackersdorf to complete two test days in preparation for the final of the European Championship, which takes place in Germany this year. Before the time comes, there are still two races waiting. In a few days, the European Championship will continue in Sarno (Italy), a week later the German Kart Championship will continue, which will take place again in Kerpen. This time, however, in the opposite direction.
