Just one week after his Formula 4 debut in Jerez, Maxim Rehm was back in his formula racing car. This time, the Winter Series was held in Valencia. In perfect conditions, the youngster showed another improvement and finished the race Sunday with a rookie victory.
The 2024 season will be a new challenge for Maxim Rehm. He is taking the next step from karting and will compete in Formula 4 for Team US Racing. He already had his first race a week ago in Jerez, Spain, where he finished third on the podium. Now he travelled on to Valencia - 38 drivers from all over the world competed at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
For Maxim, it was once again a case of getting used to the new surroundings. But Saturday was a turbulent day: "The race organizers disqualified the entire field due to too many track limits in qualifying," Maxim explaining what had happened. The result from the free practice session was used as the starting grid for the first race. As a result, Maxim was only in 21st position and it was difficult to make up much ground from the chasing pack, finishing in 18th place.
The fastest laps of the opening race determined the line-up for race two. Maxim impressed with strong duels and made it into the top ten. Another improvement followed on Sunday. With ninth place in qualifying, he was in a good starting position and experienced several overtaking maneuvers during the race. In front of a packed crowd, he crossed the finish line in seventh place and also secured victory in the rookie classification.
"Today went really well for us. I improved significantly and learnt a lot again. The duels were very close at times and were great fun. To be rewarded with a win at the end is a great feeling and shows that we are on the right track. I've now built on this in the rest of the race," summarized the 16-year-old racing driver.
The action continues in just two weeks' time. Then there will be another double-header with events in Aragon and the finale in Barcelona.
