Maxim Rehm wins heat at European Championship

After his first races in the shifter kart, the FIA Karting European Championship was waiting for Maxim Rehm this weekend. The racer from Blaubeuren in Germany competed against 88 drivers from all over the world and was one of the leading drivers right from the start - unfortunately, he had some technical problems in the final.

In 2023, Maxim Rehm is embarking on a new path by switching to the top class of karting. The youngster has already competed in high-level test races in recent weeks and has now traveled to Spain. The 1,699-meter track in Zuera was the venue for the FIA Karting European Championship - 88 participants started in the KZ2 class.

Maxim already underlined his ambitions in the practice sessions and finished eighth in qualifying, which was an excellent starting position. He followed this up in the later heats. He celebrated a win and second place, also he finished some other heats in the top five. This put him in a superb twelfth place on Saturday afternoon and made him the best German in the field. "I am very happy with the past two days. Together with my team Lennox Racing we worked hard and showed our full potential," Maxim was in high spirits on Saturday evening.

However, Sunday was not quite as successful. Maxim was already in tenth place after the start to the final, but problems with his engine left him fighting without any chance. In the end, the result was only 24th place - very disappointing after the performance in the heats.

"Unfortunately, there was a problem at one of the worst times of the weekend. It's a shame, of course, that it wasn't enough for a better result in the end. The team, my mechanics and everyone involved did a super job. Many thanks for that, and we'll be back in full force at the next race," summed up the 15-year-old.

Maxim will be in his kart once again on Friday. That's when the German Kart Championship begins in Muelsen. He finished the 2022 season as champion and is now switching to shifter karts there as well.
