After an extensive test program, Maxim Rehm competed in his first race of 2022 last weekend. The WSK Super Masters Series kicked off at the South Garda Circuit. For the German driver it was also the premiere with the new kart of Formula 1 star Lando Norris.
Not far from Lake Garda, Maxim Rehm started the new season. The protégé from the British team Ricky Flynn Motorsport will contest his first full season in the OK class this year. "Last year I had the chance to gain my first experience with the seniors, now it is getting serious, and we have to deliver," the 14-year-old racing driver reveals.
However, the beginning did not go as planned. Important tenths of a second were missing to the top. But over the course of the weekend, he worked hard and found his rhythm. The German driver confirmed this with three top-five results in the heats. With eleventh place on Saturday evening, he can be very satisfied. "Together with my team, we worked meticulously and made up for the slack. In the heats I was at the level of the leaders and made up a lot of ground. In addition, I performed much better in the races," summarizes the LN kart driver.
The final races on Sunday did not go perfectly. With continued good weather conditions, Maxim drove in the top ten. But in both rounds he was thrown back by a spoiler penalty. "Looking back, of course, that was a small setback. After the successful heats, I also wanted to score points in the finals. But that was the first race of the year and is still part of the preparation for the upcoming championships," Maxim continued.
In two weeks, he will continue. Then, the next race of the WSK Super Masters Series will take place at the same location.
