Maxim Rehm scores European Championship points at the start

Last weekend in Genk, Belgium, 174 drivers were able to start into the new season of the FIA Kart European Championship, including Maxim Rehm from Germany. The young driver was consistently one of the top drivers and finally secured his first European Championship points of the year as the best German driver.

The last few weeks have been a blow upon blow for Maxim Rehm. After being on the podium twice at the start of the German Junior Kart Championship in Kerpen, he wanted to build on this in the first run of the FIA Kart European Championship. With 174 participants from 46 nations, the field was filled with top-class drivers.

"We were already here two weeks ago and were able to gain a lot of experience. That should help us a lot now," the 13-year-old was in high spirits in advance. After good free practices, the qualifying session showed how tight the field was. Maxim was only short of seven hundredths of a second to be in pole position. As the fourth of his group and 16th overall, he still had a good starting point for the following preliminary rounds.

In the five races he continuously picked up places and drove the fastest lap several times. He was placed in the top four four times and improved to a strong seventh place in the intermediate rankings. "So far, my team and I are very satisfied. Despite the alternating weather, we found a good basis and were able to show this in the races. Now I am looking forward to the final and would like to show my skills there again", the youngster from Baden-Württemberg was highly motivated.

The final run over 19 laps took place in the best conditions. After a tumultuous start, Maxim continued to assert himself in the front field and fought great positional battles, but in the end he was not completely satisfied. "My kart did not feel 100% perfect, it took some confidence to fully attack," Maxim explained. In tenth place in the finish, he still scored his first championship points and was the best German driver.

"Even if the final did not go perfectly, it was a good weekend. My team Ricky Flynn Motorsport, my mechanic Ethan and my supervisor Nico did a great job. We competed here against the best drivers in the world and finished the race in the top ten," Maxim concluded.

Already in two weeks he will go to the next race of the FIA Kart European Championship, then the racing talents of tomorrow will be in the French essay.
