The 1,531-meter-long racetrack in Portimao (Portugal) hosted the first of four events of the Champions of the future Euro Series last weekend. In the OK field, Maxim Rehm was part of the top ten and is ready for the big tasks this year.
After the WSK Super Masters Series, the starting signal for the COTF Euro Sereis was given in Portugal. The race not far from the Atlantic coast counted as a dress rehearsal for the FIA Kart European Championship, which will take place in two weeks at the same location. Maxim was looking forward to the race: "I already know the track from previous years and feel very good. Now it is time to gain a lot of experience again in order to attack at the right moment."
Already in the practice sessions it became clear that Maxim and his team Ricky Flynn Motorsport are well prepared. After finishing 15th in qualifying, Maxim advanced to third place in the first heat and at the same time marked the fastest race lap. In the course of further heats, he was always placed in the top ten and finished the Super Heat in sixth place.
"Those were six good races. I had some close fights, but I also defended myself and showed fighting spirit, now I will fully attack in the final," the LN kart driver showed his ambitions. With a good start, he improved to tenth place at the start of the finale and kept up with the top crowd. But a collision threw him back. However, from 25th place Maxim fought his way back up to 17th place.
"Even if the finale did not end as hoped, I am very satisfied and now look forward to the start of the German Kart Championship and the European Championship. I would like to thank my team for the great support in the first races," summarized the 14-year-old German driver.
Already on Friday Maxim will be back in the kart. Then, the start of the DKM will take place on the Erftlandring in Kerpen. After the junior runner-up title last year, the rookie now wants to cause a stir among the seniors.
