Maxim Rehm scrapes past the podium by a hair’s breadth

Last weekend, more than 270 drivers from all over the world made a guest appearance at the South Garda Circuit in Italy and competed in the start of the WSK Euro Series. In pouring rain in the finals on Sunday, Maxim Rehm from Germany delivered a strong performance and was rated as an excellent fourth in the final.

Maxim Rehm travelled back to Italy with renewed strength after a quiet Easter weekend. This time the race driver went to Lonato, south of Lake Garda. Once again, the 1,200-meter-long track welcomed a top-class field with participants from all over the world. In the juniors Maxim Rehm was again counted as one of the favorites and fulfilled this role.

Already in the free practice the 13-year-old youngster felt comfortable and showed this in later racing. In the heats he led the field several times and finally finished ninth in the intermediate ranking. "So far, I am satisfied, even though I have still made too many mistakes in the races. However, the results show that we can also compete at the top," Maxim said still self-critically on Saturday night.

For Sunday's finals, the weather changed. The sun disappeared behind dark clouds and it was pouring rain. Maxim, however, did not let himself be put down by this and fought his way up to second place in the pre-final. With that he started from the front field into the final and defended his position over the entire race distance. After 17 laps he finished as a great third. Unfortunately, he still missed the deserved podium.

"Today's races were really good and I was the best driver in our team. Unfortunately, in the final, right after the start, I had a front fairing. Because of that I got a time penalty and was finally ranked fourth. Of course, this was disappointing at first, but in the end the good feeling about our performance and the current third place in the overall standings outweighed," the driver from the British team Ricky Flynn Motorsport summed up.

Maxim will already be back in Lonato in two weeks. Then there will be the final of the WSK Super Masters Series. After three out of four race weekends, the driver from Germany is placed 11th overall and wants to build on the current successes there.
