Maxim Rehm starts strong into new season

Last weekend marked the start of the new season for reigning German karting champion Maxim Rehm. In Lonato (Italy) he competed together with more than 330 drivers at the opening round of the WSK Super Masters Series. In the senior class, he delivered great fights and fought for victory.

The year 2022 ended for Maxim with the win of the German Kart Championship. But at the turn of the year, the clocks were turned back to zero for the Blaubeuren native. "Now it's time to attack again and build on the successes from last year," the 15-year-old racer knows his objective and continues, "we've done some tests in the last few weeks and I feel well prepared for the first races."

Strong competition was waiting directly on the 1,200-metre South Garda Circuit. The first of four rounds of the WSK Super Masters Series featured the world's karting elite. Maxim was the only German in his class and was already among the front runners in the practice sessions. With 16th place on the grid after qualifying, he had a good basis and celebrated a victory and third place in the heats. He climbed up to seventh position on Saturday evening.

Highly motivated, Maxim went to the start in the Pre-Final. By perfect weather conditions, he fought his way to the front and crossed the finish line in second place. Added to the results from the heats, he had a good fifth starting position for the grand final over 21 laps. The youngster from the English team Ricky Flynn Motorsport made a good start and was fighting for a top-three position early on. However, he hit the grass slightly during the fight and lost all chances of the winner's trophy as a result.

"I had to fend off an attack and then had dirty tyres, which cost me a few places. In such a tight field, you don't make up for that so easily," Maxim explained. In the end, he finished tenth and dropped down to 14th in the standings due to a spoiler penalty. "Even though the finish was not perfect, I can draw a positive conclusion. Unlike many other drivers in the field, this was my first race this year. The pace was right, which makes me very confident for the rest of the race," the youngster continued.

Maxim's next race in the WSK Super Masters Series is in Franciacorta, Italy, in two weeks. The track is also the venue for the Kart World Championship this year, so it is more important to find the right rhythm there.
