Over the past two weeks, German motorsport hope Maxim Rehm has started at two top international events in Spain. In the end, he looks back on a good performance but sobering results. Now he will continue in the German Championship, where he fights for the title at half-time.
The grand finale of the FIA Kart European Championship awaited Maxim Rehm and his international competitors. In addition, the racing driver from Germany competed in two race weekends Zuera, Spain. However, the focus was on the European Championship final. "We used this past weekend to gain experience on the track under race conditions. The performance fits, now it is up to me," the 13-year-old reported before the start.
On the 1.669-kilometer-long racetrack, it was all about hitting the right shadow zone and coping with the heat. Temperatures of almost 40 degrees Celsius made the events feel like a furnace. But Maxim made a good start: In qualifying, he was second in his group and finished eighth overall. "I am quite satisfied with that and can attack from the front rows in the heats," Maxim looked forward to the task ahead.
In five heats, it was necessary to assert oneself against the international competition. Maxim managed this with flying colors and secured 14th place on the grid for the grand finale. "I am not completely satisfied. I made some mistakes in the races, otherwise more would have been possible. But my team Ricky Flynn Motorsport supports me very well and, in the finale, I attack fully"," Maxim combatively.
Unfortunately, the final race was a big disappointment. In the first lap, Maxim fell victim to a collision and retired. All the work of the last week was thus null and void, and the youngster from Baden-Württemberg was accordingly disappointed: "What can I say. That is not how I imagined the end. But after I had no luck last week, it was neither on my side this time. Nevertheless, a big thank you goes to my parents, my advisor Nico and mechanic Ethan as well as my team Ricky Flynn Motorsport for the first-class support."
Maxim will continue next weekend. Then he starts in Genk, Belgium, at the halfway point of the German Kart Championship. After his victory in Wackersdorf, he is one of the big favorites in the highest German championship.
