Maxim Rehm wins in Genk

This last weekend, the only foreign guest appearance of the German Kart Championship awaited in Genk, Belgium. Maxim Rehm delivered a strong performance and took the overall lead in the highest German kart racing series with his first victory of the season.

In the beginning of April, the German Kart Championship started its anniversary year at the Erftlandring in Kerpen. In 1962 the first season took place, since then the championship has been one of the most important in the German youth work. For the second round, 112 drivers competed in Genk, Belgium, including Maxim Rehm from Germany.

"My kick-off in Kerpen did not go as hoped, I want to change that this time," the 14-year-old was already combative in advance. Already in the practice sessions he confirmed his ambitions and took pole position in the later qualifying. From first place on the grid, there was no stopping him in the heats. Each time with a clear lead, he crossed the finish line and thus brought himself into the favorite roles for the Sunday finals.

"I feel very good. The team is doing a fantastic job, it can continue like this tomorrow," Maxim was satisfied. But the first race on Sunday brought some variety to the action. Maxim and his crew opted for a different tire strategy and fell back to seventh place.

For the finale in the afternoon, the driver from Baden-Württemberg then had the fresher tires and blew to attack. After only three laps, Maxim took the lead and extended his lead to over ten seconds in the further course of the race – a clear victory for the driver from the Ricky Flynn Motorsport team. "What a fantastic race," Maxim rejoiced at the finish and continued, "we tried to keep our focus and underlined our possibilities with the victory. A big thank you to my team RFM, my mechanic Joseph as well as Scott and Nico for their support. I have now taken over the championship lead and I do not want to give it up again."

In five weeks, the German Kart Championship will continue. Then the championship will take place for its half-time at the Schweppermannring in Ampfing, Bavaria.
