Last weekend, Maxim Rehm was all about winning the German Junior Kart Championship. Even though he missed the big triumph by a razor-thin margin in the end, the youngster can proudly look back on a strong season. With five wins, he is the driver with most successes throughout the year.
With his double victory at the last race in Mülsen, Maxim Rehm from Germany took the overall lead before the final of the German Junior Kart Championship in Ampfing and was one of two favorites for the title. In best racing weather, the big showdown took place on the 1,063-meter-long track in Bavaria.
However, Maxim struggled with his performance during free practice and went into qualifying cautiously. "At the moment we are still missing something to jump to the top," reported the 13-year-old racing driver. With fourth place, he still had a good starting position and improved over the heats to second place. "We have found the connection, now there will be a direct exchange of blows tomorrow," Maxim knew about his chance.
However, the start of the first final on Sunday did not go as planned, Maxim lost some positions and had to fight his way back. However, the leader and at the same time his direct championship opponent was already too far ahead. In the end, it was enough for the protégé of Ricky Flynn Motorsport to take second place. "In the last race of the year, I definitely have to win to keep a small chance," Maxim continued.
However, even the second start was not ideal, but this time he made short shrift and fought his way to the front of the field within the first lap. From then on, there was no stopping him. Maxim set the pace with best times and took his fifth victory of the season.
Nevertheless, it was not enough to win the title, in the end he was missing eight points.
"It has been a very intense season and the disappointment is great right now. My clear goal was to win the title. With five wins, I won half of all the races, which shows how strong we were. A big thank you goes to my team, my supervisors Nico, Ethan and Scott as well as my family, who always support me very well", Maxim concludes.
At the end of the month, Maxim will be waiting for the highlight of the season. In Spain he starts at the Junior World Championships and wants to represent the German colors there in the best possible way.
