At the halfway point of the German Junior Kart Championship, Maxim Rehm (Germany) travelled to Genk in Belgium last weekend. 130 drivers competed in the only foreign guest appearance of the highest German kart racing series. Despite a mixed racing Sunday, the youngster remains in the title race.
Directly from the final of the European Kart Championship, Maxim Rehm travelled on to Belgium and competed there in the half-time race of the German Junior Kart Championship. After his double victory at the last race in Wackersdorf, he was once again one of the favorites. "I want to keep the title fight open," said the 13-year-old before the start.
Saturday was also promising with third place after qualifying and heats. It was not enough to jump to the top, but he still remained within striking distance. Less satisfying was the first final. This time Maxim lacked the last bit to attack the victory. However, he fought considerable duels and finished sixth. However, a five-second penalty threw him back to tenth place.
Before the second final, there was great excitement in the paddock. Just in time for the start, rain set in, and everyone switched to rain tires. Maxim wanted to use the changed conditions to fight his way back to the top. But due to initial technical problems, he fell even further behind. Only in the middle of the race did the kart run smoothly again and the protégé of Ricky Flynn Motorsport fought his way back to tenth place. By driving the fastest race lap, he underlined that much more would have been possible.
Despite the two difficult races, Maxim defended his second place in the championship and will remain in the title race for the rest of the season. At the remaining races in Mülsen and Ampfing he wants to attack again. Already this next weekend he will continue. Then Maxim makes a guest start at the ADAC Kart Masters in Kerpen.
"Even though this weekend was not ideal, I am confident for the remaining races. In the championship everything is still open and Ampfing is a track I know very well. But now it is time to go to Kerpen, I am looking forward to that and would like to make the jump on to the winner's podium again," Maxim concluded.
